"Class dismissed."

Children ran like crazy out of the AA Elementary School.

"Whew, glad that's over." Kelly Roo said, "those kids really need to respect their elders."

Kelly is a kangaroo who is one of the school teachers who works at the school. She taught various lessons of different subjects. She did her job well despite having to deal with some loud and troublesome kids. One of them is Willy Wolf, a young kid who always enjoys pranks and making Kelly's life miserable. With all these lessons and all these kids she has to teach it was very stressful, espicially that one time when she had to run the entire school for a few days while the principal was off dealing with jury duty.

"Well, time to head for the daycare to get my kid." she said getting into her car. "*sigh* at least he'll cheer me up."

Outside of class she had her own personal problems. Her former husband works in the military and while he was fit to be a soldier, he really wasn't the brightest out of the bunch. He was very busy that he rarely had any time to see Kelly and his son, and even when he did, he mostly forgot about those days. Kelly was very upset when he forgot that she threaten to file a divorce and take their son with her several times. And sure enough, she did. As if school kids weren't annoying, she tries to keep her job to pay the bills for the house. Kelly wasn't that comfortable leaving her son at a daycare most of the time, she felt like she did a better job at taking care of him herself. At last she arrived at the daycare. She got out of the car and walked up to a register where a Koala girl was seated behind the desk window.

"Hello, may I help you?" she said.

"Yes, I'm here to pick up my son Joey."

"Ok, we'll have him out soon."

Kelly waited for a while until one of the workers came out holding Joey by the hand. Joey, or Little Joey as Kelly liked to call him, is a young small child who was still learning how to speak properly. He normally wore a blue and white stripped shirt with light blue overalls. He never had anytime with his father, but he loved his mother very much. Joey squeaked as Kelly picked him up and held him in her arms.

"There there, mama's here." she said softly. Then she noticed a small bandade on his left arm.

"What's with the bandade?"

"Oh, he had a little accident. Just tubbed his arm on a tack that's all." the daycare worker said.

"a little accident?!?!" Kelly shouted.

"It's nothing too serious. Just a small prick. He'll be feeling better in..."

"You lazy bum, why would you let him do that!?!" she said

The worker backed away a bit thinking that Kelly would break him in half. Little did he know that she used to be an expert at karate. Kelly took a deep breath and calmed down.

"I'm sorry...... being a single mother and trying to keep a job is... very stressful, ya know?"

"I understand." the worker said putting his hand on her shoulder, "I have a friend who's been going through the same thing too."

"Well, thanks for looking after him."

"No problem."

They left the daycare and Kelly placed Joey in the booster seat next to her. Then she got in the car. Before she started it, she noticed Joey looking a little scared after seeing her shouting at the daycare worker.

"Don't worry, mama's not mad at you." She said patting him on the head. This made Joey feel better.

Then she started the car and they drove off. Kelly's home was not to far away from the school. It was a small house with a door, some windows, and a chimney. There was a living room, a kitchen with a dining room, a bathroom, and two bedrooms, one for Kelly and one for Joey. They both went inside and left Joey in the living room with some of his toys.

"I'll be right back." she said.

While she was off changing from her school clothes to something casual, joey sat down and played with some building blocks with letters and symbols printed on them. One of them had the letter I facing up. Then he found a block with a picture of a heart printed on it. Kelly came out of her room wearing some blue jeans and a green buttoned shirt. She noticed Joey was playing with the building blocks.

"What are you spelling today Joey?" she asked.

She looked over at the blocks that were slopply put together, it spelled out.

I HEART MOM

"Did you make that?"

Joey nodded

"Well then," she picked him up to her face. "I heart you too." she said nuzzling him. Joey giggled.

While she wan't fond of teaching kids at the AA Elementary School, she did enjoy teaching her son. She didn't have the money to send him to pre-school so she had to home school him. She mostly taught him basic shapes, words, and colors. She sat down on a couch and pulled out a picture book while Joey sat in her pouch. She opened it and found a page that showed a picture of an apple.

"What is this?" she asked

Joey looked at it and mumbled

"Now now, use your big boy words" she said.

"A... A... Ap--ple" Joey said.

"Very good." she turned the page to show a picture of some grapes, "And what is this?"

"Gr...Gra---apes."

"Very good." she turned the page to show a picture of a tomato. "And this is a..."

Joey struggled a bit and then he finally said,

"To...to--ma......Toma---to."

"Very good! I knew my little man was smart." she said patting his head.

When it got dark, they ate supper. Kelly ate a ham sandwhich, some corn, and celery while drinking a glass of water. Joey at some applesauce and drank milk from a sippy cup. Sometimes Joey would play with his food despite Kelly telling him not to. Sometimes he would take his food and smuch it on Kelly's face when she got close to him. She was annoyed by it at first, then she would later get him back by gently tap his face with his food or mashed potatoes or whatever was soft and smooshy. After supper Kelly cleaned the table, did the dishes, and gave Joey a bath. Bath time was a fund time for both Kelly and Joey. She enjoyed cleaning up while Joey liked playing with his rubber ducky. After that, Joey was all clean and ready to be put to sleep.

"Time for bed." Kelly said.

Joey yawned as Kelly placed him in her pouch. Then she began to rock back and forth like a rocking chair while she hummed a soft melody to help him go to sleep. Joey's eyes started to droop and soon he was fast asleep. Kelly walked slowly up the stairs with her son still in her pouch, and walked into his room. It was a small room with one bed, a lamp, and a small drawer where his clothers are kept. A few stuffed toys layed up against the walls while ceiling fan hung on the ceiling. She picked him up out of her pouch and tucked him in bed where he began to hug a small grey kangaroo plush toy wearing white pants, white shoes, and white gloves.

"Good night Joey" Kelly said softly as she kissed him on the cheek. Then she quietly walked out of the room and closed the door.

The next day Kelly was back to work as usual, dropping off her kid at the daycare while attending the noisey kids at the AA Elementary School.

"Back to work dealing with these kids." she muttered, "If they actually listend to be they'd be more responsible and well behaved like my son. Oh well, can't have everything I suppose."

I really liked this little slice of life! I can picture Kelly Roo getting frustrated with her son being hurt and trying to deal with being a single mom. My favourite part was her rocking her son herself, what with being a kangaroo and having big feet, she is her own rocking chair! Joey is very sweet. I liked how he tried to help his mom feel better. This was lovely.
